Mumbai: Rohit Sharma scored an unbeaten 76 to finally end his run drought in the ongoing IPL. Suryakumar Yadav also shined. The duo's century partnership led Mumbai Indians to a nine-wicket victory over Chennai Super Kings on Sunday.
Chasing a target of 177 runs to win the IPL match at the Wankhede Stadium, Mumbai scored 177 runs for one wicket with 26 balls left to register a hat-trick victory. Sharma and Surya added 114 (54A) for an unbroken second wicket to hasten the victory.
Sharma, who scored only 82 runs in the previous six innings, roared in front of the fans at home. His innings of 45 balls included four fours and half a dozen sixes. Suryakumar scored an unbeaten 68 off 30 balls. He hit six fours and five sixes. Sharma and Ryan Rickleton (24;19A) added 63 runs in the first wicket partnership.
Earlier Mumbai won the toss and elected to field. Helpful fifties from Shivam Dubey (50, 322, 4x2, 6x4) and Jadeja (53 not out, 35A, 4x4, 6x2) helped Chennai Super Kings to 176 for 5.
The young player Ayush Mathre (32, 15A) did not disappoint in his IPL debut. The 17-year-old, who was creased at number three, caught the eye with his aggressive play on debut. There were two sixes and four fours in his game, which featured fic and pull shots.
CSK dropped Rahul Tripathi, who failed consistently.
