CHENNAI: An effective bowling attack from pacers Harshal Patel (4 for 28) and skipper Pat Cummins (2 for 21) helped Sunrisers Hyderabad beat Chennai Super Kings by five wickets in an IPL match on Friday.


Chasing a target of 155 in the match at the Chepauk Stadium, the Hyderabad team celebrated by reaching the target of five wickets with 14 balls to spare. This is the first win for Sunrisers in Chennai. With this win, the Hyderabad team kept their play off dream alive. On the other hand, the Chennai team's play-off hopes almost disappeared.


Top batsmen Abhishek Sharma (0), Travis Head 19) and Heinrich Klaasen (7) joined the pavilion as the Hyderabad team scored 54 runs. Ishan Kishan (44; 34A) and Aniket Verma (19) added 36 (23A) runs in the fourth wicket partnership to give the team recovery.Later, Kamindu Mendis (32 not out; 22A) and Nitish Kumar Reddy (19 not out; 13A) put on an unbroken sixth wicket stand of 49 (31A) to take the team to victory. Noor Ahmed took two wickets for Chennai.


Dewald Asare: Sunrisers won the toss and elected to field. Harshal Patel vindicated the captain's choice and gave a strong blow to the middle order of the Chennai team. He was also supported by Cummins.In the middle order, 21-year-old South African Dewald Brevis (42;253, 4x1, 6x4) rescued the Chennai team, which was in danger of collapsing. Thus scored 154 runs in 19.5 overs.




Pacer Mohammad Shami took the wicket of opening batsman Sheikh Rashid in his very first delivery. Rashid departed to a smart catch by Abhishek Sharma.Young player Ayush Mhatre (30; 19A) tried to add strength to the team. Pat Cummins celebrated as Ayush scored a wicket. Harshal also claimed the wickets of Chennai captain Mahendra Singh Dhoni (6; 10A) and Noor Ahmed. This was Dhoni's 400th T20I match overall.
